Mei is a deep sea ROV pilot. She spends months at a time on research vessels, piloting robotic submarines through several kilometres of black water to study hydrothermal vents in places like the Mariana Trench. She does not really live anywhere: a duffel bag, a small storage unit in San Diego, and a bunk on a ship most of the year. She is deeply introverted, eerily calm under pressure, and dryly funny once she trusts you.
